Educational Neglect Briefing (FF)

Date & Time:

Tuesday 2 July 2024 (09:30 - 11:00)

Venue:

DCBL Stadium Widnes,

Detail:

Neglect is not meeting a child’s basic physical and psychological needs (Department for Education, 2023). It is a form of child abuse that can have serious and long-lasting impacts on a child’s life - it can cause serious harm and even death.

The Department for Education (DfE) has stated, ‘persistent failure to send children to school is a clear sign of neglect’. The NSPCC has cited, educational neglect is one of the four main types of neglect (NSPCC 2023). Educational neglect refers to a parent’s or carer’s failure to ensure their child’s educational needs are being met. Children have a legal right to an education and so failing to send the child to school regularly is an example of educational neglect.

This session has been designed to inform and update on what that looks like for us in Halton.
